February 2012

Well, it’s February and that means that Valentine’s day is looming (a reminder to some, it’s the 14th). So, in regards to the occasion, the next pieces I will be featuring artwork of the sappy kind because I am a hopeless romantic and I’d like to take this chance to express that side of me that I don’t usually post on my creative.

The song I’ve chosen this week, keeping to the month’s theme is Halifax’s own Jenn Grant with Sailing by Silverships. I love the fact that it’s like 2 songs in one and it works wonderfully.

Have a great month!

It’s really difficult to find a song that I like that isn’t too sappy for Saint Valentine’s Day by my standards. I have listened to quite a few songs for this gooey choice of the week, and I realize it’s not the type of music I usually go for. If I do listen to that kind of mushiness at times, I won’t admit to which ones. I did find one song that I don’t mind that is love song-ish - Little Garçon by Born Ruffians.

If you aren’t into the sentimental, I have another song for you that I really like for this week - a Dirty Ghosts song called Shout It In. It reminds me of 90’s alternative that isn’t quite emo but almost.

I’m looking forward to sharing the next piece with you (it’s kind of the reason I decided to go with the theme this month). To give you a hint, it’s a crewel stitch piece. For the rest of the details, you’ll have to tune in.

Until next week!

Happy belated Saint Valentine’s day. What I love about the holiday is the candy that is only available this time of year like cinnamon hearts. Mmmm…

This week’s piece is one that took me three and a half weeks to finish. It’s the tree that took two and a half, the rest was pretty straight forward. I’m liking this silhouette style piece. I’m going to stick with it and see where that will lead me.

So, for music, the song of the week is You're My Heart by Lioness, the PilotPriest Hearts Rendered Remix.

I wish you a great week!

Well, it’s the last week of February and the weather has been hovering around 0C except for Mondays, which usually are the coldest day of the week for some reason around -20C. Not complaining though since I am all about this odd spring weather. I’m glad to say (for winter’s sake) that when I’ve been going home this month, New Bruswick and the Cobequid pass (Wentworth valley to about Amherst, Nova Scotia) have a good deal of snow to make up for the lack of snow here. It’s still odd for winter I find to not have much snow, but I’ve heard that it usually snows then rains after in Halifax so it’s not too odd I guess. I usually don't like February because I’m not a fan of having to stay put because of storms and February is synonymous with storms.

The song I’ve picked for this week is an oldie but a good one; I’ve Put a Spell on You by CCR. I’ve been listening to my vinyl records while cleaning this weekend, which explains the selection.

So, here’s to the last bit of the longest yet shortest month’s last few days and it might actually be spring in March in Halifax!

Take care,

- Sylvie
